The Zane Williams Unifiying Theory of Music Business

It's hard for me to believe that I wrote my first E-mail Adventure message more than six years ago. Six years! That's almost the life span of a sheep! And over that time, I have slowed developed my "Unifying Theory of Music Business", which I am finally ready to unveil to you now. Yes, if you've ever had any questions about making it big in show business, they are about to be answered. Unfortunately, questions about transmissible spongiform encephalopathies will have to wait. So with now further ado, here is what I have seen woven in the very fabric of the music profession:
"When you know who you really are, and the music industry people know who you really are, you will take your natural place in the music world."
And as if that wasn't profound enough, there is a corollary... "Be content with your natural place because it's no good trying to change it." But once you get to that point you will understand that anyway.
I, after six long years, have finally pinpointed who I really am as an artist AND gotten that vision on tape. The phase I'm in right now is trying to get it heard by as many people as possible, until everybody who is anybody has heard the music, and then see what doors open. And one big door has already swung wide....
It's a festival called "Merlefest" that is one of the largest acoustic, bluegrass, and alt-country festivals in the country with over 70,000 people in attendance each year. They put on a prestigious song contest, choosing twelve finalists to perform live at the festival for a large crowd and a panel of well-known judges. I really wanted to get in this year, and I entered 9 of the 12 songs off my unreleased CD. I found out a couple weeks ago that THREE of my songs made the top twelve---something that has never been done in the history of the contest! This means I have three chances to win, that I will get to perform three songs on stage, and that Jodi and I will get backstage all-access passes for the entire festival. For a guy who is wanting to get his music heard by as many people as possible, it's a dream come true---you can find more info about Merlefest at www.merlefest.org and if you live in North Carolina you should come on out!
I'll be posting a thorough update when we get back and catch our breath---until then, wish me luck! Peace,
